Typically we use the eye and optic nerve as a model to determine the effectiveness of treatment strategies with brain disease. Our center has had collaborations with the National Eye Institute to longitudinally follow the effects of steroid use in patients with optic neuritis and longitudinal follow-up of patients with Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy.
We are also looking at the use of experimental drugs in patients with acute onset of stroke, Tamoxifen (anti-breast cancer medicine) affects on the eye, early treatment strategies in multiple sclerosis, and etc.
