Neuroscience Program Statement on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

Members of the Neuroscience Program (faculty, students and staff) value a scholarly and diverse community that welcomes a variety of viewpoints and ideas related to research, program membership and service to the university and other stakeholders.

Guiding principles:

Neuroscience is an inclusive program. We strive to achieve a diverse faculty, student and postdoctoral members and staff that come from a variety of backgrounds and identities. This diversity extends to race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, nationality, age and seniority, politics and mental and physical abilities.

Neuroscience is a collegial program. Program members collaborate to conduct high quality research, provide excellent teaching and service to the MSU, scientific and local communities. The program encourages different ideas and approaches to achieving these goals but the program does not tolerate bullying. We expect program members to treat one another with respect and understanding. Program members work to create an inclusive environment that is free from harassment.

Neuroscience program members are aware of their responsibilities. It is up to all members to provide a safe and welcoming work environment. Program members are mandatory reporters and are required to report incidents of sexual harassment, sexual violence, or bullying to the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE).

Shared governance. The Neuroscience Program will actively engage faculty, students and staff in setting program policies and making program decisions in a transparent manner and though frequent communication and discussion.
